How I Found Out I Wouldn’t Get a £250k Mortgage (And How I Fixed It)

When I first dreamt about buying my own home, I imagined signing the mortgage papers and moving in within months. But the reality was very different.
I started applying for mortgages on a £250,000 home - something I thought was totally doable. But every application came back with the same answer: rejected.
I was so confused. I earn a steady salary, I have some savings, so what was going wrong?
Then I downloaded the Klink App (which one of my friends recommended) and used their mortgage readiness tools. And that’s when things became very clear.
What I Discovered About My Mortgage Chances
The app showed me straight away that I most likely wouldn’t get a mortgage for my dream home - not yet. It gave me a breakdown of the reasons why:
-
My savings weren’t enough to cover the deposit plus additional fees.
-
My monthly spending left too little wiggle room for comfortable mortgage repayments.
-
Some existing debts were affecting how much lenders would be willing to offer me.
The Big Fix: What I Did Next
I focused on three key things:
-
Boosting my savings
The app showed me exactly where and how to cut back on small daily expenses and unnecessary costs, such as my fitness app and meditation app, that I hadn’t used for months! This added up fast. -
Reviewing my spending
I used the Spending Insights tool to see where I was overspending and adjusted my budget to free up money for mortgage payments. -
Reducing my debts
I created a plan to pay down certain debts, which improved my affordability in the eyes of lenders.
The Result: Mortgage Ready in 6 Months
Each month, I checked my mortgage readiness. My financial habits had improved consistently!
My mortgage readiness score now told me that I was very likely to get a mortgage if I applied once more.
When I applied again, this time my application was accepted. I got an Agreement in Principle right away for my target mortgage amount.
Without the app, I would have kept applying blindly, risking rejection after rejection and making things harder for myself.
Moral of the Story
If you’re thinking about buying a home but unsure if you’re ready or likely to be approved, don’t play the guessing game - the mortgage readiness tools on Klink is a game-changer. The best part? It’s free to use and has no subscriptions.
